The old jail is a historic building. It would be a great shame to have it razed for a parking lot. I remember when there were people in the town that wanted to do the same thing for the old courthouse.

History should be preserved, not dozed down because some people are embarrassed by it. You can't change history, you can only save for future generations.

As I recall there were rumours that the woman on the left in the photo had something to do with his escape from the cp jail. It might just be because she is gazing into his direction for the photo. I thought she was like the sherrifs wife or something.

:D I believe the woman in the photo is sheriff Holly. back in the 70's, a Mr. Kiss (sp) had purchased the sheriff's building, jail, court building and the car dealership (old Fry's building). he had wanted to help cp out by promoting the Dillenger history. he was shot down every which way he turned. now that Holly is dead the city is considering emphisizing the history surrounding that period.

Why?

Postby cweaver » Mon Jul 25, 2005 9:34 am

Why would crown point allow our old jail to be tore down? Even though it 's
not used to hold prisoners it is still a part of our herritage. I remember growing up and spending ever chance I could taking tours through our "haunted "jail. Mabe I'm sentimental or something , but crown point was where I grew up and plenty of those old landmarks mean alot to me.
