Search for Ind. inmateDrug suspect mistakenly freed

March 30, 2007 (Last Updated: 6:15 a.m.) - Authorities are looking for a drug suspect who was mistakenly freed from the jail in Lake County, Indiana.

The U.S. Marshal's office says the Great Lakes Fugitive Task Force is searching for 33-year-old William Smith, who has addresses in Chicago and Park Forest, Illinois.
Smith was released Wednesday when he somehow switched identities with another inmate -- also named Smith -- who was ordered to be released by a judge. William Smith was given the other man's property, including his cell phone, when he was released.

Smith was among 12 people arrested last week in connection with a heroin distribution ring.

Sheriff Roy Dominguez says he is ordering an investigation into how Smith was released.
