C.P. growth building

Times Staff Report

CROWN POINT | The city's housing boom still is going strong.

As of numbers tallied at the end of May, Crown Point by far leads Lake County in residential units built this year, reporting 180 building permits with a value of $38.2 million. The figure includes all kinds of housing.

Unincorporated Lake County reported the next highest number with 94 building permits and a $21.4 million value.

Last year marked the fourth in a row that the city came in second only to unincorporated Lake County in new, single-family homes built.

The city also has nine proposed developments this year and 20 now under construction.

While some people may not like the idea of the city growing so rapidly, Building and Planning Director Curt Graves said a growing community is a viable community.

"They keep saying that the Illinois market is still coming this way," he said. "The word is out on Crown Point."
