Mayor proclaims Bulldog Day

CROWN POINT | It's not every day that a group of teenagers gets a city day dedicated in its honor.

But that's just the kind of year it's been for Crown Point High School's football team -- one filled with memorable moments.

On Friday, Mayor Dan Klein congratulated the team on its undefeated regular season and Duneland Athletic Conference Championship. The group also broke the school's record for the most wins in a season, he said.

After the team rode down Main Street aboard a Crown Point firetruck as part of the annual Santa Parade, Klein read a proclamation before a small crowd gathered on the steps of the courthouse.

Asking residents to show their joy and appreciation, Klein commended the players' teamwork.

"They have made us all proud," he said.

Coach Chip Pettit also thanked Klein and gave a special congratulations to the seniors on the team for its hard work.

Nick Russ, a 17-year-old on the team, said the community's support made a big difference this year. Players definitely noticed that more people were turning out to watch and cheer them on.

"It's great when you can turn an away game into a home game," he said.
